The Preschool classroom provides a warm, nurturing, home-style environment that fosters a relaxed and joyful preschool experience for children ages 2,5-5.
Our Waldorf-inspired approach to early childhood education allows children the time for exploration of open-ended imaginative play, focuses on developing social emotional skills, and engenders a loving relationship between each child and the natural world that surrounds them. We employ a Waldorf-inspired educational philosophy that nurtures and enlivens all of a child’s senses during this very short but incredibly developmentally significant era of a child’s life.
The lifelong advantages to learning and experiencing music at an early age are considerable and innumerable!
Play is essential to a young child’s life. Imaginative, open-ended play strongly correlates to academic success in the later school years. The music immersion Preschool provides children hands-on, playful, musical experiences in which they thrive. Open-ended play inspires imagination and cooperation; add in several musical instruments and there will surely be several impromptu concerts!
Aural Skills
Practiced through singing; imitating different rhythms; listening to live music; following verbal directions; identifying intervals, cords, major and minor quantities of music, tempo and dynamics; and playing along with the teacher and in ensembles with their peers.
Kinesthetic Skills
Preschool children love to move! It’s essential for them to learn through movement. We will dance, march, skip, clap, stomp, freeze, and jump to many different tempos, rhythms, and moods.
Visual Skills
We will learn the musical alphabet forwards and backwards; identify patterns on the piano, bass and treble clefs; and begin recognizing and naming basic rhythmic values.
Tactile Skills
Practiced through singing; imitating different rhythms; listening to live music; following verbal directions; identifying intervals, cords, major and minor quantities of music, tempo and dynamics; and playing along with the teacher and in ensembles with their peers.
Basic Improvisation
Improvising helps children feel at ease while singing or playing at the piano, drums or kinder harp. It also builds up strong aural skills, increases a child’s ability to be flexible, all while being a very enjoyable and often whimsical activity.
Listening Skills
Listening to prominent music and stories about composers will instill love and appreciation of music.
The Rainbow Music Preschool occurs weekly in your choice of 2/3/4/or 5 mornings per week sessions. Our Waldorf-inspired curriculum will include daily circle and story time, music classes, weekly painting with high quality watercolor paints, lots of color exploration through drawing, sculpture with homemade play dough or clay, wet felting, and general crafting opportunities. We will have an outdoor playtime each day; whatever the weather, rain or shine! The outdoor play yard allows the children to exercise gross motor skills by running, climbing, jumping, swinging. Our yard has a big covered area to protect our crafting seasonal projects and supports their engagement in imaginative play outdoors even during our winter rains.
